Ras Al Khaimah is home to the towering Jebel Jais mountain peak that bravely rises almost two kilometres above the Arabian Gulf. The hairpin road gloriously meanders through ruddy barren landscapes, deep chasms and rugged bluffs.
Various designated mountain trails are suited to walkers of all experience levels. Six trails have a cumulative distance of 16km, each with its own challenges through the diverse mountain ecosystem. The hiking trails are throughout the upper and lower segments of the mountains.
Via Ferrata is the first 'iron path' in the Middle East. The 1km hiking trail at the base of the mountains traverse an adrenaline-filled hike, scramble and climb up steps, ladders and gravity-defying zip wires. This mild Via Ferrata allows non-expert climbers to reach over 120 metres safely. The course is opening soon.
Keen hikers who want to take their skills to another level can join the survival course and learn tricks from the eponymic exploration master Bear Grylls’s team of experts. The various-length survival courses will show you what to do if you get lost in the mountains, prepare a fire from scratch and build a shelter in the wilds. Explorers will practice navigation techniques, extreme weather survival and how to apply remote medical trauma treatment. Bear has personally trained his team, and they are all expert instructors in their field. Incorporate some of his dynamic techniques and methods to keep you safe when hiking and trekking. Upon returning from the survival course, you can stay overnight in one of the comfortable camp cabins.
