One of the perks of living in the UAE (among others!) is plenty of long weekends throughout the year. So if you’re planning your next quick getaway, here’s why this 3-day Ras Al Khaimah itinerary is your perfect guide.
Often touted as the UAE’s adventure capital, Ras Al Khaimah offers the best of both heritage and natural beauty, juxtaposed against modern luxury. Nestled between the majestic Hajar Mountains and a gorgeous 64km coastline, this hidden gem has been booming in a big way in recent years.
That, of course, has translated into record-breaking attractions, cultural landmarks, and luxury resorts.
The best part? There’s something to cater to all ages and moods. From rugged mountains to scale to expansive mangroves and immaculate beaches, there’s so much to explore. So if you find yourself with a weekend to spare and wondering how best to spend 3 days in Ras Al Khaimah, this carefully crafted itinerary will give you the best of all worlds.
You cannot do a Ras Al Khaimah itinerary that doesn’t feature Jebel Jais front and centre. The UAE’s highest point, it’s the perfect spot for breathtaking views, photo ops and some world-class experiences. From the world’s longest zipline (Jais Flight) to exploring the cycling and hiking trails, there are plenty of adventures to be had.
Of course, adrenaline is front and centre on a day at Jebel Jais. If you’re looking for a challenging yet amazingly immersive way to experience the mountains, you might want to sign up for Via Ferrata.
Translating to "iron path" in Italian, Via Ferrata is perfect for adventure seekers. Essentially, it’s a protected climbing route on a mountain face that uses steel cables, ladders, lanyards and other fixed anchors to aid climbers.
Alternatively, you could always sign up for the Bear Grylls Explorers Camp, pick a course that fits, and brace yourself for the adventure of a lifetime! Under the guidance of a trained team of experts, learn the most amazing survival skills and reconnect with nature like never before.
Post the morning thrills, make your way to 1484 by Puro, the highest restaurant in the UAE. It’s pet-friendly, has a delicious menu, and is perched 1,484 metres above sea level - so you know the views are to die for! Think panoramic views of the valley below, a diverse menu, and a memory you’re going to cherish long after your weekend in Ras Al Khaimah ends.
All this adventure definitely warrants a bit of relaxation. Take the evening to explore the cultural side of Ras Al Khaimah at the Dhayah Fort. The fort dates back to the Late Bronze Age and is ensconced by lush date palm gardens. Sunset at the fort is the best, offering sweeping views of the Hajar Mountains and the coastline. End with dinner at any of the top dining destinations at Jebel Jais or within the emirate before heading back to your hotel.
Another unmissable highlight of a weekend in Ras Al Khaimah has to be a visit to Suwaidi Pearls in Al Rams. The UAE’s only remaining active pearl farm, it celebrates one of the country’s most revered traditions. Embark on a short boat ride and explore how oysters are cultivated, hear lore from divers, discover modern pearl farming techniques and more. You can also try your luck at cracking open an oyster - maybe there’s a pearl awaiting!
Continue the journey back in time at Al Jazeera Al Hamra Heritage Village, the UAE’s only preserved coastal pearling town. The historic home of the Za'ab tribe, the place was abandoned in the 1960s. However, everything remains near perfectly intact, featuring coral stone houses, wind towers, a mosque, and a souk. Take a tour along the alleyways and paths, and discover some historic buildings that’ll give you a glimpse into the UAE’s heritage.
No holiday in Ras Al Khaimah is complete without experiencing the desert. It’s almost an unavoidable tradition in the UAE to hit the dunes for everything from safaris to camping. From dune bashing to camel rides and falconry displays, the sun will set on a gorgeous evening. And of course, nothing says quintessential Gulf holiday like a desert camp. Think traditional barbecue under the stars, and then back to bed for a well-deserved nap.
You wouldn’t want to leave kayaking across the mangroves out of your Ras Al Khaimah itinerary. Home to flamingos, herons, kingfishers, and other migratory birds, the waters are crystal clear, and you could even paddleboard through the area. If waters aren’t your thing, you could always visit the National Museum of Ras Al Khaimah for a cultural outing. The fort is full of fascinating ethnological and archaeological artefacts dating back over 7,000 years.
The best part about Ras Al Khaimah is always going to lie in the plentiful choices. For the water babies, Al Marjan Island is always worth a visit. The man-made archipelago of four islands hosts plenty of white sands and turquoise waters ideal for swimming, sunbathing, or simply enjoying resort life. Or you could choose between Saqr Park (the largest in the emirate), or Wadi Shawka for a hike.
Conclude your 3 days in Ras Al Khaimah with another trip to the beaches for some relaxation. Or if there’s still an appetite for activities, make a beeline for Kuwaiti Souq to pick up souvenirs. Shop for handicrafts, jewellery, and traditional garments to remember the trip by. And of course, don’t forget to end the trip with dinner at some of the best restaurants in the UAE.
There are multiple options to reach Ras Al Khaimah. Around 100 km from Dubai International Airport, you can just drive there easily via the E311 highway.
If you’re staying at a hotel in any other emirate, most will offer private transfers as needed. There is, of course, Ras Al Khaimah International Airport as well for those flying straight in.
If neither of these sound appealing, there are plenty of intracity buses from Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Sharjah that will take you to the emirate. Be sure to check timings and drop points online to ensure convenience.
Like any other trip, we’ve created this Ras Al Khaimah itinerary to offer a blend of adventure, heritage, and relaxation. Most importantly, however, the focus is to create flexibility in terms of interchangeable dates, minimal bookings, and to ensure both sightseeing and relaxation.
From soaring down the world’s longest zipline to exploring ancient forts, diving into the history of pearl trading, and unwinding on pristine beaches, holidays in Ras Al Khaimah will have something for everyone.
